Good reference and I would have given the kindle edition 5 stars but the fonts used spell the flat musical notes wrong. For example when in the text he mentions an Ab (meaning A “flat†of course) it spells AE, or a Bb is spelt BE. So every ‘b†meaning a Flat on a note is spelt with an “E†not a b.You can figure out what he means by cross referencing, but come on Berkelee and Kindle, get it together and fix it!Look in the table of contents for example: An BE Tenor Saxophone, or a EE Alto Sax and BE Trumpet? Those are easy to figure out but the book is riddled with E’s instead of b’s for flats in the text which are hard on the eyes when reading and is very amateurish for such a book.
The continued development of arranging techniques available through this text in combination with another Berklee Press book" Modern Jazz Voicings written by Ted Pease and Ken Pullig have boosted my writing options and elevated my practice writing for professional performance.The knowlege has even helped my writing for the theater.
Thought I was getting a book on horn arranging with nice details and insights as to what really works. It ended up being just another book on the basic information about horns. Pretty much a beginner to intermediate book.
